Generation 2 - The next level

The introduction of the Tsla 160 in 2010 laid the foundation for the next generation of BIONICON mountainbikes. The Tsla 160 will become the Alva 160 in 2011 (Thomas Edison's 2nd name). For the coming season the Alva will be joined with two innovative new siblings.

Alva180air und Alva180coil

The 180mm air and coil Alvas are the big brothers in the family. For the first time BIONICON will offer a coil sprung bike combined with our normal geometry adjustment system. An air sprung version of the same bike is also available. The fork cartridge offers a travel range of 100-180mm with the superb climbing characteristics which you know and love from every BIONICON! The final weight is not quite clear but our coil sprung prototypes weigh in at 15 kg with enduro tyres.

Reed140

For those of you who don't need 160mm travel we have a lighter alternative for 2011 - the Reed. Like the Alva the Reed is based on the Generation 2 four bar linkage rear suspension. In the uphill position the rear suspension shares the same hyper-extension effect offering a kinematic platform effect. The Reed is the ultimate Trans-Alp weapon, relaxed and swift climbing with plenty of plushness for the downhill.

The Genaration 2 features:
/ Four bar rear suspension with BIONICON System
/ Hyper-extension: Kinematic plattform effect through over-extension of the rear triangle
/ 142/12mm rear thru-axle
/ Doubleagent 15GL fork Reed140 (70-150mm) and Alva160 (80-160mm)
/ Doubleagent 20 fork for Alva180air and Alva 180coil (100-180mm)
/ new product design with Technature-Look

Brand new Forest Collection

Following the successful introduction of the BIONICON Riding Wear collection 3 years ago a completely new collection will be introduced for 2011. Based on a layering system as used by all outdoor clothing manufacturers you are always ready for whatever the conditions bring.

First Layer
As with our existing range the new 1st layers are based exclusively on Merino wool. The natural material combines a range of features which now synthetics have been able to replicate. A pleasant next-to-skin feeling, fast drying and odour resistance are the key qualities of merino. New is the revised bike specific fit, flatlock seams and contrasting accent colours. Long-arm versions have a small zipped pocket for change or cards.

Second Layer
A combination of nylon material on the outside and merino wool on the inside creates a unique hybrid effect. The nylon is tough and tear resistant but not uncomfortable. The material is named MAPP Merino-Nylon-Hybrid. The cut is bike specific but styling and colour will look just as good off the bike.

Outer Layer
Our shorts and jackets are made from the best softshell material currently available on the market. The Swiss manufacturer Schoeller supplies us with WB-400 material for jackets and DrySkin material for shorts. The jackets have a 3XDRY coating which is almost water and windproof, offers maximum elasticity and high tear resistance. The shorts have a NanoSphere coating emulating the characteristics of the lotus flower: dirt and water pearl off the fabric. Both coatings can be "re-charged" after extended use through careful washing and ironing.

The features of 2011 BIONICON Riding Wear:
/ bike specific cut
/ Ladies and mens collection
/ innovative fit with radical lines styling
/ First Layer 100% Merino wool short arm, longarm and vest variants
/ Second Layer new Merino-Nylon-Hybrid as hoody
/ Outer Layer Jacket Schoeller WB-400 Softshell with 3XDRY coating
/ Outer Layer shorts Schoeller DrySkin Softshell with Nanosphere coating
/ Diverse colour options

New fork casting with a range of unique features

The Reed140 and Alva160 will debut in Spring 2011 with a new fork with the name Doubleagent 15GL. This fork is just like the bikes equipped with innovative and unique technology.

/ gravilube

The name for our new, patented integrated lubricating system is gravilube and arrives following four years of development work. Two bleed ports allow lubricants to be injected into the fork without disassembly. New oil is added whilst the old oil is simultaneously removed, just like bleeding a brake. So anyone can maintain the front suspension in minutes and ensure perfect fork performance.

/ 15mm thru-axle

Now that the 15mm standard has established itself as the best performing system for bikes up-to 160mm travel weíve included this feature in the new casting. Higher rigidity and better performance with large brake rotors are the result.

/ Direct Postmount 180
We think that brake rotors smaller than 180mm are unsuitable for mountainbikes, apart from pure XC racing use. A marginal weight increase is a small price to pay for higher braking power, less fading and longer pad life. So our new casting comes with a direct postmount standard for 180mm. You no longer need an IS ñ postmount adapter allowing a weight reduction and cleaner lines.

/ BIONICON System fork cartridge Generation 2
Already fitted as standard to the Tsla 160mm the new fork cartridge is saves over 100 g and offers more sensitive suspension action. The new cartridge is paired with our hydraulic damping cartridge.
