BIONICON | BIONICON Rider sets worldrecord on 6175 meters

Swiss BIONICON Rider Claude Balsiger sets an new worldrecord in the indian himalayas. He reaches 6175 meters on his BIONICON Reed. Accompanied by photographer Martin Bissig, Claude reaches the top of an unnamed mountain in an epic 8 hour ride.

The record in altitutde cycling was set on august 12th in indo-tibetian borderarea. The thin air in the altitutde over 6000 meters was an extreme challenge to the 28 year old swiss. The last 100 hundert meters took him about 2 hours. 7 o'clock in the morning the team started out in Basecamp on 5400 meters. At two o'clock in the afternoon he broke the existing record of 6085m and reached the top about one hour later 100% cycling.

Second attempt

Just about one year after their first attempt, the two swiss got snowed in the basecamp again. In August 2010 a cloudburst destroyed not only their dreams of setting a new worldrecord, but also many villages and homes in the himalaya region of Ladakh. They escaped the floods narrowly and invested their time left in rebuilding houses and fields. For the remaining weeks until their return to switzerland in september Claude and Martin will be working for for their charity project for flood-victims.
